Re-Connect Erasmus Project
Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile partners with RE-CONNECT Erasmus EU Project
Comharchumann Forbartha Ionad Deirbhile (CFID) was recently part of a successful application to the Erasmus+ EU programme to develop training in community-based eco-tourism and the circular economy.
The RE-CONNECT Project will enable communities in remote locations to develop sustainable and climate-neutral tourism businesses. The project will develop and roll out a training programme for local businesses covering topics such as sustainable planning and booking services, green transport services, green accommodation services etc. RE-CONNECT will also develop a circular tourism hub which will be a platform for sharing information on climate neutral tourism solutions. This hub will be available to local tourism staff (hosts, suppliers and operators) to share their experiences and challenges and to showcase best practice in circular economy tourism initiatives.
Welcoming the commencement of the RE-CONNECT project, CFID Manager Tina Nic Eafartaigh said, “This project ties in closely with the need to develop sustainable tourism businesses to service the growing numbers of visitors to the Erris Peninsula, Blacksod Lighthouse, the Offshore Islands, and the new Áras Scéalta an Atlantaigh project which is currently under development. The RE-CONNECT project will enable us provide useful training for local businesses to help them development and grow in a sustainable way.” RE-CONNECT was approved in late 2021 and will run for two years. RE-CONNECT has six partners from five European countries including Hungary, Lithuania, Slovenia Italy and Ireland and the first International Partner meeting was held virtually on 26th January 2022.
